IDEAL - InterDisciplinary Education Additive Manufacturing Lab
At TUM, research in the field of Additive Manufacturing (AM) is conducted in a wide range of disciplines. There are also a large number of courses on this topic for students from a wide range of disciplines. This is where the IDEAL project comes in and supports students from the first lecture to the start of their careers. It offers a comprehensive advisory and orientation platform and promotes interdisciplinary cooperation between the chairs at TUM through newly designed lectures.
AM-Student Guide
Based on a large number of lectures (n > 40) that deal with Additive Manufacturing in various ways at TUM, the student guide aims to give students an overview of the courses offered in the field of Additive Manufacturing in order to optimally accompany them through their studies.
In addition to the student guide, three new lectures are being designed and implemented as part of the project. They will expand the portfolio of lectures on Additive Manufacturing offered at TUM. The planned start for the three lectures is the winter semester 2025/2026.
Virtual Reality AM-Lab
The VR AM-Lab enables students from various studies to immerse themselves in the world of Additive Manufacturing and get to know different manufacturing processes from various disciplines in an uncomplicated way and in the form of mini-projects.
Interdisciplinary Internship
Through an interdisciplinary university internship, students get to know various chairs and gain insights into research. They also go through the steps for producing additively manufactured components in mini-projects and present their results to the internship group at the end of the semester.
Excursions
Excursions give students the opportunity to get to know various Additive Manufacturing processes in a practical way. Different specialist areas and processes can be explored with selected industry partners.
